It’s strange how quickly your wellbeing can crash and burn when you’re not in complete control of the wheel. A solid two months of traveling and filming a movie abroad had thrown my hard won healthy lifestyle into a tailspin. Week after week of sporadic sleep, no set schedule or exercise routine, and eating whatever was available from room service at 4am after night shoots, had left me feeling like I’d been run over my a truck. I needed to get my health back on track and pronto before I downward spiraled into the black hole of the fast approaching Holidays party circuit. I knew I couldn’t do it left to my own devices. I needed the support of a program with rules and boundaries. It was time again for the reset of The Ranch Malibu. With the fast paced social season in full swing it was challenging to find a full week for a selfish, in a good way, time out. However, I was able to create enough space on my calendar for a long weekend, the perfect amount of time to jump-start my journey back to my better self with the Ranch 4.0.
The Ranch 4.0 is a 4-day, long weekend version of The Ranch Malibu’s award winning 7-day wellness program held at the plush Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, CA. The retreat is modeled after the same active fitness schedule as The Ranch Malibu, including 4 intense hikes, daily fitness classes, and deep therapeutic massage. Their knowledgeable staff will tend to your every need while guiding you to achieve your wellness goals. Limited to 18 guests each weekend, my, in-between Thanksgiving and Christmas, stay was an intimate 9 amazing ladies from across the country. This highly successful and “woke” group of women easily bonded together to participate in an active daily schedule consisting mainly of a 7-10 mile hike through the glorious hills of Malibu. I am so blessed to have this weather and terrain in my own back yard. As the only returning guest and So Cal local, it was fun to meet Chicago, NYC, London and other likeminded snowbirds flocking to our California Christmas weather to move and breath outside in the relatively balmy conditions.
The Ranch’s intense physical regimen is complemented by a delicious and satisfying 1,400 calorie-a-day organic plant-based diet, served in an enchanting onsite “Ranchified” greenhouse, with a cooking class offered the last day before departure. Guests are sent home with recipes from the program. This time I purchased their gorgeous cookbook to take home to continue to experiment with cooking plant based at home.
35 miles, 12 healthy meals, 8 new friends, 4 Epsom salt baths and deep nights sleeps, 3 massages, and 2 pounds lost…and just like that, I’m back.
