L’Horizon Resort & Spa, Palm Springs

I love Los Angeles.  Hollyweird may not be a fit for everyone but for me it is both my comfort zone and creative home.  Sometimes though, even my sprawling mega-city, full of action and entertainment, can feel like a small town of usual suspects.  A quick road trip to the surrounding desert has long been my go-to getaway.  With rich a Hollywood history and mid-century modern architecture, the newly redesigned L’Horizon has easily become my latest favorite escape.

Back in the day, L’Horizon Resort & Spa (built in 1952 by renowned architect William F. Cody) attracted golden era guests rumored to include Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable.   Recently redeveloped as a luxury resort by designer Steve Hermann, it has just been voted “#1 Resort in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler’ Readers’ Choice Awards, drawing new generations of stylish starlets to its oasis.   Skipping the swarm of Coachella cool kids and Stagecoach cosplay cowboys, I like to head to the desert in May, after the dust had settled from the music festivals, in the sweet spot of spring.

L’Horizon’s Bungalows are custom designed to emulate well-appointed private residences.  The 21-and-over fully modern resort, with uber-quality accommodations, will make you feel like you are staying at your most fabulous friend’s weekend home.  The bungalows, with private patios, are spread out over three acres creating an exclusive and intimate feel.  Frette Linens, Le Labo toiletries, marble bathrooms, and a mix of bespoke and vintage furniture, work together to create a unique luxury experience.

One of my favorite special touches is that each L’Horizon Resort & Spa guest receives an engraved name plate for their bungalow door that can be taken home as a souvenir from their stay.

Dining

The reservation only SO•PA offers refined alfresco dining.  Join them for dinner in an intimate setting or sit social style at their walnut communal table.  Finished with fire pits and fountains, the Steve Hermann designed space offers dinner Thursday-Sunday.  Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is also available to L’Horizon guests at the Pool Bar and through in-room dining, delivered to your bungalow, private patio, or lounge chair, starting at 8am.  I highly recommend indulging in their fresh fruit topped Pancake to start your day off right.  Just trust me.

Spa & Wellness

The Spa is the epitome of relaxed elegance with white canvas cabanas in a serene indoor-outdoor setting.  Indulge in massages, facials, body treatments, and aromatherapy.  The Spa offers an array of services tailored to a balanced wellbeing.  I chose “Arnica Deep Tissue” an intense treatment that relaxes sore muscles and stiff joints with deep massage techniques using arnica oil: one of nature’s best pain relievers.  All spa guests are invited to imbibe an on-the-house Spa Refresher cocktail, with or without vodka, at the Pool Bar après treatment.  L’Horizon Resort & Spa also offers complimentary weekend morning yoga designed for all fitness levels.  Private Yoga classes are also available for booking through their Concierge..
